A lack of sleep can have a major impact on mood, concentration, memory and quality of life.
Here’s what a healthy sleeping habit looks like:
Stick to a sleep schedule: To develop healthy sleeping habits, it’s important to stick to a sleep schedule. This means waking up at the same time every day and going to bed at the same time every night. You will find that a regular sleeping pattern will help you get to sleep easier and waking up a lot easier. Having a regular sleeping pattern can also decrease stress in your life.
Make sure you get the GOLDEN HOURS to sleep: If you’re feeling tired and stressed, it might be because you are not getting the right QUALITY sleep. Our REM sleep is when our bodies do the best healing and repair. Golden hours are between 10 pm and 2 am. If you aren’t getting these, you are not giving your body the best chance for repair
Have a relaxing bedtime routine: Creating a relaxing night-time routine whether it’d be taking a relaxing bath or reading a good book can help make you feel relaxed and ready for a good night’s rest.
No technology: Avoid checking your social media before bed as the light from your smartphone can alert. Additionally, checking emails and messages before bed can make you feel anxious and alert which will prevent you from getting a good night’s sleep.
Avoid naps: Avoid taking naps as this can have a severe impact on your sleep. To help regulate your sleeping pattern, it’s best to avoid daytime naps. If you are going to have a nap, make sure it doesn’t exceed 20 min to avoid disturbing your body cycles.
Avoid alcohol and caffeine: Eating dinner early can give you enough time to digest your food before bed. Stay away from alcohol and caffeine. If you’re a coffee addict, make sure to stick to one coffee per day and to drink this earlier on in the day.
